Sleep for three months and make your problems go away. Ellie Savage is used to promises. Her dermatologist dad and her psychiatrist mom run the Narcosis Clinic, a medical facility famous for ultimate makeovers, where disturbing issues are resolved while patients are beautified. Clients like pop star Dean Mathews are grateful to narcosis for healing their deepest wounds. Ellie is her parents’ most ardent supporter until her dreams become a nightmare. Ellie discovers that her true self has been shredded to bits by the scalpel and the only way for Ellie to remember is to forget everything she thinks she knows.
My Review:
Rating: 3.75/5 stars.
I am reviewing this book after receiving a free copy from Hidden Gems Books! Narcosis Room by Louise Cypress had me hooked from the very start. The idea of a place like the Narcocsis Clinic is all consuming and leaves you with so many questions and morals to think about. This book is almost dystopian in the way that it shows modern medicine take over people's lives and basically create perfect people. Take away there flaws and you have yourself a robot controlled by narcosis. Ellie was a brilliant main character and I thought it brilliant that the author could create different versions of her in her writing. I'm glad it all came full circle so that we could understand why Ellie's parents did what they did. I got the Ellie-Me subconscious part of the book and it worked but wasn't sure why in the last 2% of the book we needed a Dean-Me. Also the ending seemed a little rushed. In the last few chapters everything was good but there was no justice. I've also read around that this is a standalone book but the last chapter implied that there would be another one. The last chapter was called 'NEXT: OLIVIA' and ended on a cliff hanger. Hopefully there will be a second book which would clear up any confusions I had about the ending. Overall, this is a brilliant book full of great characters and an amazing plot.
