Queen Song

Queen Coriane, first wife of King Tiberias, keeps a secret diary—how else can she ensure that no one at the palace will use her thoughts against her? Coriane recounts her heady courtship with the crown prince, the birth of a new prince, Cal, and the potentially deadly challenges that lie ahead for her in royal life.

Steel Scars

Captain Farley was raised to be strong, but being tasked with planting the seeds of rebellion in Norta is a tougher job than expected. As she travels the land recruiting black market traders, smugglers, and extremists for her first attempt at an attack on the capital, she stumbles upon a connection that may prove to be the key to the entire operation—Mare Barrow.

My Review:

Rating: 4/5 stars

I really enjoyed reading the two short stories that made up this book, Cruel Crown. One about Cal's mother, Queen Coriane, first wife of King Tiberias, as she tells her story of meeting Tib and how she becomes Queen and then what happens after. I thought this story was such a sad one and I felt so sorry for Coriane. It gave more meaning to what happened in Red Queen as well.

The second story is about Captain Farely, a Captain of the Scarlet Guard, and her path to the point where Mare become the Lightening Girl! I enjoyed seeing the role Shane had as well. I thought these short stories were good and gave us more of the story past and present.

I'm looking forward to continuing with the rest of the series soon!
