Book Review: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

Half-Fae, half-human Bryce Quinlan loves her life. Every night is a party and Bryce is going to savour all the pleasures Lunathion - also known as Crescent City - has to offer. But then a brutal murder shakes the very foundations of the city, and brings Bryce's world crashing down.

Two years later, Bryce still haunts the city's most notorious nightclubs - but seeking only oblivion now. Then the murderer attacks again. And when an infamous Fallen angel, Hunt Athalar, is assigned to watch her every footstep, Bryce knows she can't forget any longer.

As Bryce and Hunt fight to unravel the mystery, and their own dark pasts, the threads they tug ripple through the underbelly of the city, across warring continents, and down to the deepest levels of Hel, where things that have been sleeping for millennia are beginning to stir ...

With unforgettable characters and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Timesbestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom - and the power of love.

My Review:

Rating: 5/5 stars

Firstly, I have to thank Bloomsbury Publishing and Tandem Collective UK for gifting me a copy for an honest review. I really enjoyed being a part of this readalong.

“Through love, all is possible.”

I went into this book blind. I had no real clue what it was going to be about but really wanted to read more SJM because she is a queen! I can't express how much I loved everything about this book. All the characters had such depth and again there was so much meaning behind everything! I definitely sobbed at least three times while reading this book, mainly at the last 300 pages because damn did they hit me hard!

"My friends are behind me, and I will protect them.”

The themes of friendship, acceptance, mental health, loss, slavery (I could go on forever) really drove this story forward and I was hit in my feels so many times. It wasn't just the characters that drove this book though. The plot was also phenomenal. Bryce and Hunt are searching for answers after the pack of devils are killed and there are so many twists and turns that I didn't expect what happened. Bryce and Hunt's relationship was so wonderful to watch. The banter had me laughing out loud and the acceptance they showed each other was truly beautiful.

"Light it up, Bryce."

I really could talk about this book forever and it has become one of my top favourite reads. If you enjoy high fantasy with angels, fae, wolves, vampyrs etc. then this is a book for you. Sarah J. Maas is the author that got be back into fantasy and I can't wait to read more.
