Book Review: Legacy by Nora Roberts

Adrian Rizzo was seven when she met her father for the first time. That was the day he nearly killed her—before her mother, Lina, stepped in.

Soon after, Adrian was dropped off at her grandparents’ house in Maryland, where she spent a long summer drinking lemonade, playing with dogs, making a new best friend—and developing the stirrings of a crush on her friend’s ten-year-old brother. Lina, meanwhile, traveled the country promoting her fitness brand and turning it into a billion-dollar business. There was no point in dwelling on the past.

A decade later, Adrian has created her own line of yoga and workout videos, following in Lina’s footsteps but intent on maintaining creative control. And she’s just as cool-headed and ambitious as her mother. They aren’t close, but they’re cordial—as long as neither crosses the other.

But while Lina dismisses the death threats that Adrian starts getting as a routine part of her daughter’s growing celebrity, Adrian can’t help but find the vicious rhymes unsettling. Year after year, they keep arriving—the postmarks changing, but the menacing tone the same. They continue after she returns to Maryland and becomes reacquainted with Raylan, her childhood crush, all grown up and as gorgeously green-eyed as ever. Sometimes it even seems like the terrifying messages are indeed routine, like nothing will come of them. Until the murders start, and the escalation begins…

My Review:

Rating: 5/5 stars

Firstly, I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing an eARC of Legacy for an honest review.

Straightaway with that first line I was hooked: 'the first time Adrian met her father was the day he tried to kill her'. Hook, line and sinker. We got to see the main character, Adrian, grow from a 7 year old into her thirties and for me it didn't seem strange to keep jumping forward in time because we were given the main events that mattered and it made sure we knew exactly what was going on in her life.

It is a multiple POV book that is a romance thriller, which Nora Roberts does so well. Adrian is being stalked by an unknown poet from the time she becomes a well known fitness instructor. Every single year she receives a poem that are all equally threatening. We get the POV from the murderer and it is so chilling the way Roberts creates her stories. As well as this we have a beautiful family that mean so much to Adrian. Her grandparents are brilliant characters. Adrian's friends that she acquires over the years and their children are the best. There are so many brilliant themes in this book that you just need to read it to see it.

Then there is the romance between Adrian and Raylan. With Jasper and Sadie (their dogs) is so lovely and heartwarming. They finally came together after so many years of knowing each other. Roberts always gives her characters such interesting careers and I loved watching Adrian's blossom creating fitness videos and Raylan with his graphic novels.

Definitely recommending this to anyone and everyone! It's a brilliant book that you need to read!
