Book Review: Girl Reimagined by Mikhaila Friel

Writer's picture: Amy LittlefordAmy Littleford

“And all the world is packaged into second chances. Even amber is able to call herself blue.” In Girl Reimagined, debut poet Mikhaila Friel takes us through her journey from adolescence to adulthood, with tales about even the strangest debacles she’s faced in her short 22 years of existence; from the regret that comes with bleaching your hair as a teenager, to the enchantment and heartache involved with leaving home for the first time. With this quirky collection, she tackles themes of self-love, identity and empowerment.

My Review:

Rating: 4.5/5 stars.

Mikhaila Friel was kind enough to give me an ARC of her upcoming book which will be published June 1st for an honest review. Firstly, I want to say that this book of poetry really resonated with me. Mikhaila is of a similar age to me which helped me to relate to her poetry. Their is so much strength within this book and it uplifts you while reading it. I loved that all her poetry is long form! Which you don't see as much of anymore. She touches on a lot of important topics, mainly one of equality, which gave the book a universal meaning to it. All the poems are of such different structures which is great to see! (I also love that there was a Friends reference!) My two favourite pieces are 'SELF LOVE' and 'A CONVERSATION'. Make sure to keep an eye out when this book is published! June 1st! Save the date!
